Metal Materials & Surface Finishes for Custom Metal Displays

Mirror-Polished Stainless Steel

Brushed & Satin Metal Finishes

Where two pieces meet, the direction of the grain and the edge treatment can change the appearance of the joint. A flat finish sample may show the color and texture, but a corner sample can be more useful for a frame with 45-degree joints.
Electroplating & PVD Metal Finishes
Gold, champagne, chrome and other metallic finishes are used on decorative retail fixtures and display props. Samtop's oversized stainless steel ring is one example of a polished and electroplated display piece. Different plating and vacuum finishing methods may be considered depending on the base material, product shape, quantity and required appearance. Electroplating and PVD are not the same process. For color-sensitive projects, we recommend approving a physical finish sample before production.
Powder-Coated & Painted Metal Displays
Painted and powder-coated metal is often used for display racks, counters, cabinets and frames that need a specific brand color. The finish may be matte, satin or glossy, depending on the approved sample. Edge coverage, texture and the way metal looks beside wood or acrylic should also be considered.
Metal Finish Checks & Surface Protection
Mirror-polished, brushed and plated metal displays need different handling and surface protection. For visible areas, the approved finish sample provides an appearance reference. Polished and plated components may require individual protection to reduce scratches during handling and shipment. The packing method depends on the metal finish, product shape and shipping requirements.

The minimum order quantity, production time and manufacturing method depend on the product shape, metal material, surface finish and quantity. A single sculptural prop may require a different approach from a repeat order of retail fixtures. Two quotes may include different metal grades, thicknesses, finishing methods, assembly work or export packing. A lower price does not always cover the same manufacturing scope. When comparing suppliers, check the proposed material, quantity, finish requirements and included services. Samtop reviews the supplied drawings and identifies details that still need confirmation. This makes it easier to compare quotations based on the work actually required.
Photos help with communication, but they may not show the exact reflection, brushed texture or plated color. For important visible parts, we recommend a physical sample made with the proposed material and finish. Once approved, it can serve as a reference during production. If the display has special corners, edges or highly visible surfaces, these should also be included in the finish approval requirements.
Please share the drawings for the connected parts, including openings, fixing positions and important dimensions. Even when each supplier makes its own parts correctly, assembly problems can occur if the interfaces are unclear. We review the available connection details and identify dimensions that need confirmation. For more complex projects, a physical sample or trial assembly may be useful before production.
Send the updated drawing with the changes marked and the revision number clearly shown. We review whether the changes affect metal parts already made, connections, finishing or assembly. A small change may still require another sample or fitting check. If the update affects price or production time, those details should be discussed and confirmed before manufacturing continues.
The right cleaning method depends on the base metal, surface finish and how often the display is touched. Mirror-polished surfaces can show fingerprints and fine scratches. Some decorative finishes may be damaged by abrasive cleaners. We recommend confirming the cleaning requirements for the approved finish instead of using the same method for every display. If customers will handle the fixture often, please mention this during the material review.
Approved drawings, physical finish samples and production records provide useful references for repeat orders. Before another batch begins, we review whether the original materials and finishing methods remain available. If a material or process has changed, a new sample may be needed.
